Peter Jukes, named best social media journalist by Press Gazette, is to write a definitive, “uncensored” account of the phone hacking trial, to be published soon after sentencing.

Jukes, an award-winning dramatist turned journalist, has live-tweeted all 29 weeks of the trial of Rebekah Brooks, Andy Coulson and five other newspaper defendants at London’s Old Bailey since October 2013.

Entitled BEYOND CONTEMPT: The Inside Story of the Hacking Trial, the full-length book will contain all the material he has been legally barred from publishing so far.

Four formats, including an e-book priced £8.99, can be pre-ordered from the website www.hackingtrial.com.

raordinary case to come before the English courts in years.”

The book will be published by Canbury Press, a publishing company founded by Martin Hickman,  formerly a news reporter at The Independent.

The four formats are: e-book for quick release; first edition signed paperback with free e-book; the above with a dedication in the paperback and an invite to the launch party with special guests; and an access-all-areas pass.

Selling the book through a bespoke website rather than Amazon will give author and publisher a higher share of royalties.

Hickman, who wrote Dial M for Murdoch with the MP Tom Watson, said: “Peter’s innovative funding of his coverage has opened a chink of light in what have been dark times for journalism.

“Just as he pioneered crowd-funding, we’re hoping that selling this book direct to the public will find a new way to fund hard-hitting and engrossing longer-form journalism.

“Having attended the trial every day myself, I know he’s got an eyebrow-lifting tale to tell.”

Jukes – whose blog was nominated one of the best three news sites in the UK by the London Press Club – talks about The Inside Story of the Phone Hacking Trial here.

Praise for Peter Jukes’ coverage:

Jeremy Vine, BBC Journalist, said:

“If Peter Jukes is the future of journalism, our trade is safe. His reporting was not just rock solid: it represented the most significant press innovation since newspapers started printing in colour.

“Every day – sometimes every hour – I would check my phone and get the latest from Peter at the hacking trial. No one has done court reporting like this before.”

Owen Jones, Guardian columnist and author of Chavs, said:

“Peter Jukes is a genuine media pioneer, the citizen journalist personified, exposing one of the greatest Establishment scandals of our time like no other journalist.

“This is the definitive account and is a must read for anyone who wants to understand not only our media, but power in Britain”
